CURRICULUM

This major, consisting of 52 credits, investigates aspects of health as related to equity and access, policy and advocacy, and the roles communication and the arts play in the health of individuals and communities. It is founded on the perspective that human health is a societal responsibility and a human right, not only a personal choice or privilege. Issues of race, class, the environment, access, technology, and more contribute to individual, societal, and global health. Applying critical and creative thinking, cultural awareness/humility, teamwork, and problem-solving, students will explore these complex issues from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.

Career Outlook

Graduates will be prepared to work in a local public health department, a nonprofit focused on health or sustainability, a community-based health clinic/organization, an international human rights NGO, or a media outlet communicating about science and health. In addition to offering immediate employment, this major lays the foundation for master’s-level work in public health, health communication, allied health, and health management.
