PUBLISHING AND WRITING (MA)
Our MA in Publishing and Writing provides an entry point into the publishing industry, from writing and editing to design, production, promotion, and distribution. In this program, you will create meaningful products focused on your skills and interests and have the opportunity to take literature courses or writing workshops, teach college composition, or intern at an agency or publisher. We approach digital publishing with a focus on accessibility and provide you with experience in the business and editorial sides of publishing. Situated inside the Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing, our integration of publishing, literature, and writing cultivates your ability to respond to creativity with creativity.
Expert Faculty
Our faculty include nationally recognized members of the book and magazine industry, having held positions at Nation Books, Viking Penguin, The Boston Globe Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, and The Atlantic. All are active industry professionals working on the cutting edge of their fields, and your graduate program director will provide you with individualized guidance based on your desired learning outcomes.
Pub Lab
Gain professional publishing experience working with community partners in Emerson’s Pub Lab, a space for students to volunteer on publishing projects outside of the classroom. Examples of organizations that students have worked with in the past include: The Culturist, the Boston Globe, EdTech Times, Rosie’s Place, and The Artist of Humanity Catalogue.
