Engage with the World Around You

We prepare the global leaders of tomorrow. Here, you’ll find an immersive, international, and civically minded academic experience, bolstered by community engagement initiatives like:

  • The Elma Lewis Center for Civic Engagement, Learning, and Research, part of the larger Social Justice Center at Emerson, which seeks to uplift communities and develop a culture of civic mindedness and civic action.
  • Emerson Contemporary, the College’s platform for showcasing contemporary visual art via multidisciplinary exhibitions, public programming, and events that feature artists who examine social themes and current topics through diverse practices.
  • Pipeline programs for Boston-area youth—like EmersonWRITES, an urban creative writing lab offering free college-style workshops to students in grades 8–12 enrolled in a Greater Boston public or charter school.
  • The Engagement Lab, our applied research lab, which produces creative interactive solutions to local, national, and international civic problems through engaged research, academic collaborations, and partnerships with external organizations.

Sabrina ’19

Experiential learning is central to life at Emerson, whether that happens in the classroom or down the street at one of hundreds of companies and organizations offering internship experiences for Emerson students—like WCVB Channel 5 News. Journalism major Sabrina Silas ’19 spent five months of her junior year interning at the ABC-affiliate Boston television station, gaining firsthand experience, expanding her professional network, and developing skills that would help her launch a successful career after graduation. She also interned at E! Entertainment at NBCUniversal.
