Visual and Media Arts majors are all about learning by doing. Whatever your passion, you will start working with talented mentors, collaborators, and crew members who will help you turn your vision into reality from day one. If you choose the Media Studies major, you will focus on the scholarly study of the media arts, likely preparing for a career in media criticism, publishing, and industry research or advanced studies in the media arts or the law.
If you are interested in a more technical, aesthetic, and in-depth proficiency in producing visual media, you can apply to the Media Arts Production program (and, if you so choose, pursue a BFA starting your junior year). Here, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art production facilities, digital labs, and suites with tools for non-linear editing and post-effects, film editing, and audio production/post-production.
WRITING, LITERATURE AND
PUBLISHING (BA, BFA)
Writing, Literature and Publishing
If you are an aspiring author, poet, publishing executive, or magazine editor, either of these WLP majors will offer you the personal attention you need to flourish in an exciting and evolving industry. If you want your coursework to focus mainly on writing, with the opportunity to take additional publishing and literature courses, you may choose to pursue the Creative Writing BFA. If you prefer a more equal combination of coursework across the three disciplines, you may choose the BA in Writing, Literature and Publishing. In either major, you will have access to some of the most impressive faculty in the industry and be part of a campus that is in the heart of Boston, a national hub for publishing and media, and the perfect place to begin your career.
